Eye on Calderdale

Eye on Calderdale, a crucial resource for the residents of Calderdale, approached us to redesign and build their website. The project required not only enhancing the site’s functionality but also updating its brand look and feel to ensure accessibility and usability for all community members.

The primary challenge was to create a visually appealing and highly functional website that provided real-time flood warnings and comprehensive information on flood preparedness and response. Additionally, the site needed to be fully accessible, catering to users with visual impairments and other accessibility needs.

We embarked on a comprehensive redesign process, updating the existing brand with a fresh colour palette, a bolder, more accessible typeface, and unique illustrative assets to give the site a distinctive visual style.

Designed a custom warning information board to display real-time flood warnings and river levels for Calderdale residents.

Created a hub for information on flood preparedness and response.

Enabled the creation of custom pages with extensive customisation options.

Enhanced Accessibility:

Designed a unique UI with bold type and accessibility options, including high contrast, larger type size, light backgrounds, black and white, and negative contrast modes.

Ensured the site adhered to accessibility standards to cater to users with visual impairments.

Additional Functionality:

Developed a custom multi-page online form for reporting flooding incidents.

Included a blog section and newsletter sign-up feature.

Enabled back-end content management with different user roles for efficient site administration.

Results: The new Eye on Calderdale website is a comprehensive, user-friendly platform that effectively serves the needs of Calderdale residents. The real-time flood warning system and detailed information hub provide critical resources to help the community prepare for and respond to flooding events.
